The 10k run course is totally on cycle and footpaths circumnavigating the river Tees. Starting on Navigation Way runner's head towards the Newport Bridge, which is the 2K-point.

See route www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=15750

After going under the bridge, they run up a small ramp onto the footpath at the top, before travelling north. Within 500 yards they turn right, again passing under the bridge, continuing along the north shore footpath, back towards the barrage.

The 4K marker is just before runners reach the White Water rafting course, parallel with the Wetland Nature Reserve. The on course water station is also located here.

Having traversed the White Water area, with its spectacular views, runner's head back onto the riverside path passing under the Princess Diana Bridge. As they continue along the footpath on Riverside Road they pass the old mine sweeper, formally used by the Sea Cadets, arriving at the Millennium Bridge.

Leaving the bridge on the south shore, they reach the 7K marker behind Dunedin House, before again returning the riverside path. The next 1.5K takes runners around the inland waterways, connected by a number of small bridges, close to the Bark Endeavour replica ship moored on the north shore. Once back on the rivers edge the finish at the barrage is clearly visible, although there are still a couple of minor deviations to negotiate.

Having crossed the finishing line, runners are handed their official race t-shirt and bottled water.

The presentation of awards takes place within 45 minutes of the first runner coming home.
